a collaboration with christine hudson
In collaboration with Christine Hudson, we built a fragile, translucent, open closet that became a space for clothing donation, exchange, and gifting. Through this work, we questioned the metaphor of closets in queer identity, the process and pressure of coming out of a closet--the liberation and the violence in such an act. This is a particularly hazardous act for folks of color, for folks outside of the western world, for folks in working-class and working-poor communities, and for children of migrants. But more importantly, we made an open closet that welcomed folks alike and a place for donations of clothing, where the huge clothing collection was donated to the Los Angeles LGBT Center for their drive to help homeless queer and trans youth.
